I first heard the music of Liz Story in college in the mid 80s. As I recall, it was my roommate who first had her album, Solid Colors. The song that intrigued me most was Wedding Rain. It was in a very free flowing, improvisatory style like nothing I had heard before. I knew I wanted to play like that. I picked out as much of the song as I could by ear, later finding the music to that and other songs. That song helped to shape my own playing and compositions. After I produced my first CD, Impressions for Piano, I took it to some local venues to sell. The owner of one of the bookstores said, “I like your music. It reminds me of Liz Story.”
